From around the conference

For the first time ever, the IADR general session’s Hatton/Unilever competition has seen participation from Syria. Dr Wael Almhadi (pictured above) represented Syria in the international competition, having had won the national competition of the 1st scientific meeting of the SSDR in Damascus in October 2009. Dr Almahdi has received a generous travel grant from the IADR, which covered all conference, travel and accommodation expenses.

Dr Almahdi has commented on his participation:

The 88th IADR general session, held in Centre Convencions Internacional Barcelona, Spain. July 14-17/ 2010 was well organized, and the participation was of great value for me.

I had two presentations in the conference:

1- An oral presentation for the Hatton Unilever competition, which was an exclusive participation (by invitation). My presentation was titled: “Clinical Comparative Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Laser in Dentine Hypersensitivity Treatment”. It lasted for 10 minutes, and followed by a discussion.

It was good and new experience, and the discussion with the judges was very useful for me.

All competitors were invited in the following day by Unilever and the IADR to receive the awards at the ceremony and dinner held in Hilton Barcelona Hotel. It was very interesting party. I cannot explain my feeling when I received the divisional award certificate It was the best time during this journey. Besides, I made many friends from Korea, Pakistan, Greece, and the UK.

2- A poster presentation in specially designated place for the Hatton Unilever competitors in the exhibition hall.

Unilever and IADR kindly printed all the posters. The discussion during the presentation with exhibition visitors was valuable and interesting.

Finally, it was good opportunity to meet and share knowledge in this meeting. I want to acknowledge all the SSDR Council for helping me to prepare to this meeting.

Dr Horia has also commented on her participation:

“My participation in this conference was to present my Master’s research titled: Azithromycine in the treatment of Aggressive Periodontitis: Three months results, which was accepted as an oral presentation.

I was very pleased and honored presenting my country Syria and my university Damascus University. It was very useful being there among large number of figures in dentistry and their latest researches from all over the world”.
